8/26/06 - We have travel dates!

Yesterday I spent the morning at the embassing obtaining Visas which means we are travelling! The boys tried our their Russian (speceeba- thank you) on the staff.

We arrive in Perm on 9/9, meet a child or children on 9/11, and are expecting to return the the states on 9/14. It will be quite a whirlwind as travel takes approximately 2 days. We have a 9 hour flight to Germany, a 13 hour layover and then we are on to Perm. We are trying to arrange to have an doctor from Moscow come to evaluate our referral.

Referral is the term used to designate the child selected for a family to meet. It's difficult not become bonded to a child as soon as you hear something so I try to be as vague as possible. So many things can happen that would cause us to lose the referral. The child may not be as reported, someone from Russia may show interest in the child before we arrive, or a member of the birth family may come forward to reclaim the child after we have formally accepted the child. So if our enthusiasm seems guarded, that is why. Once we go to court, on trip 2, in 6-12 weeks, the child referred to us is then legally part of our family.
